This is hotel as theatre, from the vast modern baronial entrance hall to the artfully sunken baths. Yet for all its glamorous feel, one of the most attractive things about the Edition (though the concierge might be shocked at the thought) is that it is right beside the Levent metro station, and you can make a business appointment or rush off to the Blue Mosque without having to sit in Istanbul’s horrendous traffic.

Levent is about as convenient a place as you can be for accessing the different parts of the city, but though it is near to good restaurants and high-end shopping malls, no one could accuse it of being picturesque. Hence the Edition’s decision to create an almost self-contained theme park (the theme is luxury), with level after level of spa and health facilities, basketball-court-sized bedrooms, and a branch of Cipriani's where the Art Deco interior (let alone the Bellinis) will make you blink and wonder if you are in Harry’s Bar. Once inside, you leave the city behind. There is a relaxed lounge with tasty snacks and things to drink for the asking. All in all, a place to feel pampered.
